In memoriam of Dr. Peg Rees

Great Basin National Park Foundation Advisory Board Member, Margaret (Peg) Rees, passed away in early February. Peg was an incredible supporter and lover of Great Basin National Park. Her love for the Park began while completing her PhD in Geology in the region.

Dr. Peg Rees was an extraordinary woman who accomplished much - from her early geological work in the Great Basin National Park area and Antarctica, to her years of dedication at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as the Public Lands Institute Director. She was an outstanding figure in public lands stewardship and educational outreach efforts, and contributed to the effort to construct the Great Basin Observatory.

Her passion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the natural world and education will be remembered.

Peg and her partner of 25 years, Sharon Schafer, had moved to Tucson several years ago for their retirement. They are proud to carry on Peg's legacy of stewardship, education, and outreach, through the Great Basin National Park Foundation Dr. Peg Rees Memorial Fund.
